Banu Karimi-Shah

Banu Karimi-Shah received her combined BA/MD from the Seven-Year Medical Program at Boston University and Boston University School of Medicine.  She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and then went on to complete fellowship training at the Harvard Combined Pulmonary and Critical Care. During her fellowship, she pursued basic science research analyzing and researching animal models of disease and treatment in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.  She joined the FDA in February 2007 as a medical officer and subsequently was promoted to team leader in 2011, and Deputy Division Director in 2018. As of 2025, she is the Division Director of the Division of Pulmonology, Allergy, and Critical Care (DPACC) in the Office of New Drugs.
