Ithan D. Peltan, MD, MSc is Associate Professor at Intermountain Health and serves as the 33-hospital health system’s Medical Director for Pulmonary/Critical Care Research. Dr. Peltan leads an NIH-funded research program using clinical trials and big data to investigate the early identification and management of critical illness, with a particular focus on sepsis. He is especially interested in understanding the causes and implications of practice variation in the delivery of sepsis care and how such variation can be harnessed to inform causal inference on sepsis treatment via well-designed observational studies and pragmatic trials.

Dr. Peltan graduated from Dartmouth College and earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed internal medicine residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital followed by fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Washington, where he also earned a Master of Science in epidemiology.
