Anthony Etyang

Anthony Etyang underwent his undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He then did an MSc and PhD in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. His primary research interest is in determining locally relevant solutions for controlling the burden of hypertension and other non-communicable conditions in low-and-middle income settings. His research spans from basic science to clinical trials and implementation strategies for control of a wide variety of diseases of importance in sub-Saharan Africa. He played a critical role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme. This included designing and leading epidemiological studies as well as clinical trials.
He is based at the KEMRI Centre for Geographic Medicine Research- Coast and is the current Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Demography at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme. He is also the Acting Head of the Clinical Research Department.
He is an Associate Professor in the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Associate Professor at the Non-Communicable Disease Epidemiology Dept at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He also serves on several local and international working groups including the Health Data Collaborative hosted by the WHO.
